Northwest Coast Art Degree Program at the University of Alaska Southeast
ART DIRECTION | SCRIPT WRITING | VIDEOGRAPHY | POST PRODUCTION
The University of Alaska Southeast sought to create program highlight videos to celebrate its partnership with Sealaska Heritage Institute and their new joint venture: Northwest Coast Art Degrees. To provide an authentic representation of these programs, we recommended starting with preliminary interviews with language scholars and art faculty members across various mediums. This approach helped shape our narration and focus.
We also collaborated with Dr. X’unei Lance Twitchell, a respected Tlingit scholar, to record the narration. Drawing inspiration from these insightful discussions and from contemporary Northwest Coast artists like those at Trickster Company—who blend traditional art forms with modern technology—we aimed to capture a dynamic intersection where clan house aesthetics and formline design meet iPads and skateboard graphics.
